Todd Palin's biz partner moves to seal divorce papers (UPDATED)

This is a developing story which may or may not have legs, but it's worth keeping an eye on it.  From Andrew Sullivan today:

Here We Go

Todd Palin's former business partner files an emergency motion to have his divorce papers sealed. Oh God.

The link to the docket where the motion is listed isn't responding right now - presumably because of server overload.

UPDATE: So if you can get the link above to load, you'll see that the "Motion to Make Case File Confidential" has already been denied. Presumably this means we'll see whatever's in it. As I say, this may be nothing. But worth paying attention to.

Court has denied motion to seal.

Whatever... (none / 0)

It might just be that he realized people were going to be digging into his business and was hoping they wouldn't be able to.

Of course, now he's ensured that they'll be trying to get that information.

So people are going to snoop into some guy's divorce who has nothing to do with the campaign?

That is pretty F'd up.

We are 0 for 2 in hidden scandal department, and so far all we have done is contribute to her popularity and let her skate on issues

Isnt our campaign supposed to be the one where we dont wallow in the mud.

No reason (none / 0)

to try to seal them, unless he has something to hide.  Sorry, but it's true.

She needs to be discredited to the conservative right.  There's only so much even they will turn a blind eye!

Re: Todd Palin's biz partner moves to seal . . . (none / 0)

The NEnq will have to do its own story on that. Scott and Deborah Richter are apparently  involved in a different scandal, and he may have moved to seal because of that, not the one people are drooling to see. The sealing may be exciting people for the wrong reasons.

SP had a legislative director named John Bitney. The tale told there in the Ak press is that he was fired at the insistence of the Palins for dating a lady who was either the ex or the soon-to-be ex of an originally unnamed Todd Palin pal. Scott Richter and the Palins are reported today to own jointly certain real estate near a nice lake, five lots. So he might qualify as a business partner.

The firing was quite sudden and after a compromise that he move out of the Gubernatorial office into a Department. was supposedly rejected by the Palins, and the firee found out when they cut off his blackberry account.  He was picked up promptly after his firing by a big wheel in the Legislature named Harris, and the pressure to fire him there also allegedly came from the Governor's office but apparently it didn't work.

The lady in this drama  has been identified in the Ak press as Deborah Richter, a government employee. If this is the same family and the divorce mentioned in the  Bitney scandal, it might well be that the Richters or Mr. Richter  attempted to seal their divorce file to keep their family matters and his business  and their rather smaller scandal out of the national press. It could be that this smaller scandal, a sort of Troopergate-lite, is the occasion of the filing.

Realistically, if the scandal at issue here is the Bitney firing, it would make sense, since national press are mad for any sort of scandal and little folk can get eaten up and damaged irreversibly  by disclosure of private matters which the national press will have forgotten in two days.

Stop drooling. If NEnq makes its case, drool then. In the meantime, this is unseemly.
